The Difference Between A Lug and Wafer Butterfly Valve

2019-02-12 16:59:28

Butterfly valves have been around for a long time, and are used for a variety of applications. They made their first appearance during the 1930s, and have been utilized by several industries ever since. Often made out of cast iron, butterfly valve's name is based from the functionality of its disc.

The wafer butterfly valve is one of the most common types of valves in industrial pipelines. The structure of wafer butterfly valve itself is relatively small. It is only necessary to put the butterfly valve in the middle of the flange at both ends of the pipe, and use the stud bolt to pass through the pipe flange and the pair.

Non-Slam Check Valve for Water Supply, Pump Stations and Pipeline Protection

RKSfluid Silent Check Valve is designed to prevent reverse flow and help reduce closing impact in water and air pipeline systems. Its compact flanged design is suitable for water supply systems, pump stations, fire protection systems and building infrastructure.

Available in DN50–DN800 with pressure ratings from PN10 to PN40 and Class 150–300, the valve can be configured with ductile iron or stainless steel body materials according to project requirements.

How Does a Silent Check Valve Work?

The valve allows the medium to flow in the required direction while preventing reverse flow when the flow direction changes.

During normal operation, the disc opens under forward flow. When the flow decreases or stops, the disc moves toward the closed position to prevent reverse flow. The silent check design is intended to reduce closing impact and help minimize pressure fluctuations in the pipeline.

This makes it particularly suitable for pump discharge lines and water supply systems where reverse flow protection is important.

Applications

Water Supply Systems
Used in water transmission and distribution pipelines to prevent reverse flow and protect downstream equipment.

Pump Stations
Suitable for pump discharge applications where reverse flow after pump shutdown needs to be controlled.

Fire Protection Systems
Can be used in flanged fire protection pipeline systems where reliable one-way flow is required.

Building Infrastructure
Suitable for water pipeline systems in commercial and industrial buildings.

FAQs

A silent check valve is used to prevent reverse flow in pipeline systems while helping reduce valve closing impact. It is commonly applied in water supply, pump stations, fire protection and building infrastructure systems.
The disc is designed to close rapidly as forward flow decreases, helping reduce reverse-flow impact compared with conventional check valve designs. This makes silent check valves suitable for systems where pressure surges need to be controlled.
RKSfluid Silent Check Valves are available from DN50 to DN800, with pressure ratings from PN10 to PN40 and Class 150 to Class 300. The correct rating should be selected according to the system design pressure.
The valve body is available in ductile iron or stainless steel. The disc uses CF8 with EPDM sealing. Material selection should consider the medium, pressure, temperature and project requirements.
The valve is designed according to GB/T 12235-2007. Face-to-face dimensions follow EN 558-1, with flange options including EN 1092-2 and ASME B16.5.
Yes. Silent check valves are commonly used at pump stations and water supply systems to prevent reverse flow and help control pressure fluctuations after pump shutdown.
The valve is suitable for water and air service, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to +80°C. Material and pressure selection should be checked according to the actual operating conditions.
Key factors include pipe diameter, working pressure, medium, temperature, flange standard and installation requirements. For pump applications, flow conditions and potential pressure surges should also be considered during selection.
