The ATHENA Double Eccentric Butterfly Valve is engineered for demanding water transmission and distribution systems where reliable sealing, low torque operation and long-term durability are essential.

Designed according to EN593 and EN1074 standards, ATHENA valves are widely suitable for municipal water networks, pumping stations, treatment plants and large diameter pipeline projects.

Compared with concentric butterfly valves, the double eccentric design reduces seat friction during operation, resulting in longer seat life and smoother opening / closing performance.

Why Choose ATHENA Double Eccentric Butterfly Valve

  • Essential: Design and material selection are optimized for use in low and medium pressure drinking water applications.
  • Durable: Uninterrupted corrosion protection with pin-less connection and closed disc eyes ensure long service life and clean water.
  • Efficient: Flow-efficient design for minimized head loss and low energy consumption significantly reduces the cost of ownership.
  • Installation: Double bearing kits to furthest reduce the torque, tansfer the weight of disc to body, also it could lock and fix the position of disc for long life using, even the valve could vertical downward direction

Typical Applications

  • Municipal Water Transmission Pipelines
  • Water Distribution Networks
  • Pumping Stations
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Reservoir Inlet / Outlet Pipelines
  • Irrigation Infrastructure
  • Buried Valve Chambers
  • Large Diameter Pipeline Isolation Service

Why Double Eccentric Design Matters

Unlike concentric butterfly valves, the shaft in a double eccentric valve is offset from the disc centerline and seat centerline.

This design helps:

  • Reduce friction during opening
  • Lower seat wear
  • Improve sealing reliability
  • Reduce torque demand
  • Extend maintenance intervals

For large diameter water pipelines, these advantages often translate into lower lifecycle cost.

Installation Recommendations

For best field performance:

  • Flush pipeline before installation
  • Align flanges accurately
  • Tighten bolts in cross pattern
  • Support large valves during mounting
  • Confirm operating direction and clearance
  • Conduct functional open/close test before commissioning

For buried or flood-prone chambers, IP68 gearbox configuration is recommended.

FAQs

The Athena series is designed for DN200–DN1800 water pipeline systems with lower operating torque and stable sealing performance. The compact structure makes it suitable for municipal water transmission, pump stations, and large pipeline networks.
The double offset disc design reduces friction between the disc and seat during opening and closing. Lower operating torque helps improve operation efficiency and reduces actuator requirements in large-diameter applications.
Yes. The Athena series can be supplied with gearbox, electric actuator, and pneumatic actuator configurations, including ISO 5211 mounting compatibility for automated pipeline systems.
The valve is available with EN558 Series 13 and Series 14 face-to-face dimensions for compatibility with different pipeline and replacement requirements.
The Athena series is commonly available in PN10, PN16, and PN25 pressure ratings for water transmission and municipal pipeline systems. Higher pressure classes such as PN40 can also be customized according to project requirements.
Double eccentric butterfly valves provide lower torque, smoother operation, and reduced seat wear, making them suitable for pump stations and frequently operated pipeline systems.
Yes. Valve size, gearbox configuration, actuator mounting, flange drilling, coating system, and material options can be customized according to project specifications and operating conditions.
